What does that mean exactly? It means that whether you seek a basic cremation, a full traditional funeral service or a modern celebration of life, we manage every detail to perfection. From bagpipes to cupcakes, puppies to putters, we take the things that mattered to someone and bring them together to create a singular, heartfelt celebration.

Cremation services

Not everyone knows that there are many cremation options. If you are interested in cremation, the funeral home team can explain the process and different options. From a direct cremation without a memorial service or a witness cremation to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you understand this increasingly common choice and handle all of the cremation arrangements. If you wish, cremated remains can be placed at Sunset Hills Memorial Park.

History

Founded in 1892 by J.P. Finley, Finley Mortuary was originally located in downtown Portland. It quickly became a respected provider of funeral services in the area.

Sunset Hills Memorial Park was founded in 1936 and is among the more recognized landmarks on Sunset Highway.

In 1949, Finley Mortuary and Sunset Hills Memorial Park came together as sister locations. The Finley family built a 2nd mortuary on the grounds of Sunset Hills in 1965, which they called Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary. The original location was closed in 1979 and Finley-Sunset Hills became the sole Finley mortuary.

To this day, both the funeral home and cemetery teams continue to deliver the highest standard of service and compassion to people from all walks of life.

Sunset Hills Memorial Park cemetery

When you enter Sunset Hills Memorial Park, you may feel a moment of clarity and peace. Visitors are often struck by the natural beauty of the cemetery, and we are deeply honored to be stewards of the property.

The cemetery offers many lovely areas and a range of burial options, from mausoleum entombment and cremation niches to traditional ground burial and lawn crypts.

Fountain of Remembrance

One special part of the cemetery is around the Fountain of Remembrance. The park-like area has cremation niches set in boulders and stones that mimic the colors of Portland's volcanic geology. Stately Douglas firs, western hemlocks and towering red cedar trees provide shade on sunny days. The nearby mausoleum is light and airy, with huge picture windows that invite nature right in.
